“Charcoal came to me during that process. It’s not just a medium for creating; it’s an idiom for expressing traumatic experiences,” Danni explained during an interview with detikcom at her exhibition.
Danni found charcoal to be a perfect fit for conveying vulnerability and fragility, especially since the material is delicate and prone to breaking. The contrast between the soft, easily manipulated charcoal and the harsh realities it symbolizes in her work makes the medium even more impactful.
